A space for understanding and change
Therapy can offer a place to make sense of what you have experienced, understand how it continues to affect you, and begin finding a way forward at your own pace.
Frequently Asked Questions
Starting therapy can bring up questions. Here are some answers to help you understand what to expect and decide whether working together feels right for you.
Your first session is an opportunity for us to begin getting to know each other and talk about what has brought you to therapy. We’ll also briefly go through confidentiality, privacy and informed consent in a clear and straightforward way, so you understand how therapy works and have an opportunity to ask any questions. You can share as much or as little as feels comfortable. We’ll talk about what you would like support with and what you hope to gain from therapy. There is no expectation that you tell your whole story in the first session.
Not at all. It’s completely okay to begin therapy without knowing exactly what you want to talk about or where to start. You may have a clear idea of what you would like support with, or you may simply have a sense that something isn’t quite right. We can take the time to explore what is happening for you together and gradually understand what you would like from therapy. There is no pressure to have everything figured out before you begin, and we can work at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
Finding a therapist you feel comfortable with is important. The first few sessions give us an opportunity to see whether working together feels like a good fit. You are welcome to ask questions about my approach, and there is no obligation to continue if you decide that another therapist or type of support would suit you better.
